2024-25 Family Study Guides for Ch. 1-22 (free slides included)

$35.00

Greetings Challenge III Mamas and Directors! These study guides began as a mission to ensure my last Challenge III student gleaned – not glossed over - the valuable and profitable concepts between the covers of A Patriot’s History of the United States. Why would anyone do one more assignment for the debate strand? To redeem the (substantial) time spent reading this text with tools to enhance understanding, interest, retention, and application.

In a nutshell, APH Study Guides help:

« Identify crucial concepts                          « Explain new terms and background concepts

« Summarize important sections                « Engage students via interaction with key concepts

« Offer additional assessment tools           « Generate conversations with targeted questions

« Provide a framework for note-taking       « Add activities and some fun to a monumental task

The text is voluminous and verbose with advanced vocabulary crucial for understanding the objectives. Background information is often assumed and can result in students missing key points, and/or the overall objective, and losing interest. Identifying the key topics on which to focus is challenging with the vast number of pages required per assignment. The study guide contains TERMS, fill-in-the-blanks, summaries, and a plethora of question types designed to help students comprehend the major topics.  There are also activities, explanations, and many questions designed to generate Thought and Discussion.

In my 15 years as a CC director, tutor, and mom, I’ve seen this book: (1) read, but poorly understood and retained, (2) partially read, then eventually left behind, and (3) skimmed, with basically zero retention. This one saga teaches not only history, but educates the student in essential economics, civics, American government, business, politics, warfare, foreign relations, and more. A Patriot’s History assumes certain vocabulary and background knowledge most high school students probably have not yet mastered. With just a little time and energy laying a foundation for these chapters, the understanding of not just what happened, but why it happened and how the events are interrelated can be a fascinating adventure. After dissecting the material presented in this textbook, I truly believe it is vital for our students to understand how America was envisioned and designed and also identify the ideas, beliefs, and actions that resulted in our nation’s current state.

In addition to my own student, many others journeyed through these study guides last year and reported to have understood, retained, and enjoyed the process more than going solo. Some of their reviews are on the website.

This journey was and is a work in progress and is not meant to be a perfect workbook, but a passing of knowledge gained from one CC momma to others and their students. If you find mistakes or typos, please inform me with grace at ccrresourcemomma@gmail.com and I’ll be most happy to correct the information.  Questions, concerns, comments, or kudos are welcome as well. Thank you very much for your interest! Blessings for a deep and productive school year full of wonderful memories!

With gratitude,

Tracy
